Judge Gina Tveit has extensive ties to Stevens County

Judge Gina Tveit has extensive ties to Stevens County and cares about her community.  Judge Gina was born and raised in Stevens County and understands the value of hard work and dedication.  Her grandfather and great grandfather fought for our country in WWI and WWII.  Generations of Gina’s family have worked as farmers and loggers in Stevens County.  Judge Gina has lived the American dream and was the first person in her family to graduate from college. 

After Law School, Judge Gina married her late husband, Steve Tveit, and was proud to return to Steven County to start her legal career.  Steve had a forestry degree and he worked for Boise Cascade where he became the Timberlands Manager and was well respected for his work in shaping public policy regarding private landownership and forest practices.  Gina and Steve were married for 19 years and had two children, Emily and Alex, before he passed away from brain cancer.  Gina and her children will be forever grateful for the loving support they received from their friends and family throughout the community during this difficult time in their lives.

Judge Tveit has an extensive legal career spanning nearly 30 years

Judge Tveit has an extensive legal career spanning nearly 30 years.  She started her career with a broad-based civil practice before accepting a position at the Stevens County Prosecutor's Office where she worked for 15 years in a variety of positions, including Juvenile Prosecutor, Family Law Prosecutor and District Court Prosecutor.  Eventually, Gina was appointed to serve as the Special Felony Drug Prosecutor for Stevens and Ferry Counties, where she successfully prosecuted felony drug crimes.  In 2009, Judge Gina Tveit was unanimously appointed to the District Court bench by the Board of County Commissioners.  Later, she met and married Fareon Ferguson, another long-time Stevens County resident.  Together, Gina and Fareon have proudly encouraged and supported their children to pursue their educations.  In 2017, Emily graduated from college and is now pursuing a graduate program.  Alex is a Junior at Gonzaga University and Ashley is completing the Aesthetics program at the Glen Dow Academy in Spokane.

Through her life experiences, Judge Gina embodies Stevens County values.  Judge Tveit maintains compassion while taking a tough stance on crimes that impact community safety.  For nearly the past decade, Judge Gina Tveit has developed a reputation as being tough but fair.  Judge Tveit expects those appearing before her to show respect for our judicial system and she serves the people by maintaining independence and respecting the rule of law.
